My professional activity in London consists of treating adult patients who need individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy and assessing patients who I refer to other colleagues. Some of my patients come to me because they are interested in experiencing analytic psychotherapy in the independent tradition combined with insights taken from Attachment Theory. Because of the fact that I speak Italian and Spanish as well as English, I do get patients referred who speak one of these languages. People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Often the presenting problem or complaint is the tip of the iceberg and analytic exploration elicits co-existing and underlying problems. Common problems are:
Some problems stem out of traumatic relationships in childhood and adult life, including childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse, marital maltreatment, political persecution and bullying in the workplace. I have ample experience of working with psychotherapists, counsellors, solicitors, nurses, social workers and medical practitioners who need support in their caring function and exposure to highly traumatised patients and clients. In my current work I exclude patients with severe personality problems and patients who need acute psychiatric intervention. Dr. Mario Marrone |
